  • Roaches and Filters

I have a friend that is a teacher. She has probably 10 tanks set up in her classroom, both salt and fresh. Anyway, she says she's been having problems with small roaches climbing on and in her filters. Has anyone heard of this problem and any suggestions?

To clarify, I know her and I've been to her house. She's a very clean person, but it is a high school and I'm sure kids bring food etc into the classrooms and debris probably gets left around.

They come in for the wormth of the electice moters and the water. The school should do something but they will likely kill everything. even the fish.

Obviously I'm not making myself clear. My friend is the teacher responsible for the tanks. She has had them for years and does take care of them. Recently she started having a roach problem and I'm trying to help her come up with a solution. She doesn't want to use bug spray for obvious reasons.

I agree with KhmerStyle...sticky traps are probably the best solution. The aerosol poisons are obviously a no-go, and I would be worried that with the dry poisons, the roaches would head for the water after consumption, and possibly contaminate the tanks.

Truly Traps or baits are all she can do. Any other action would be up to the school.
