The use of feeder fish is negative as it is the use of fish as cruel and unnecessary, as the feeder fish is once introduced in the a small tank it has no chance to escape which is not a natural situation and just a cruelty with that fish.

+1 Mistahoo, There are many different fish that can be eventually trained onto pellets. It takes time and can be hard. Then there are those that never take to training. They will starve if not fed live prey. Whether that is blackworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, or guppies is up to the aquarist and the relative size of the fish. For those that are sensitive about live prey, I would exercise caution when choosing piscivorous species that do not adapt well. I'll give my opinion, which is based on previous attempts at keeping feeder fish with my fahaka. I tried convict cichlids, I put them in the tank and of course my puffer chased them around until he couldn't swim any more. So i figured maybe he'll get them at night. Negative. They successfully spawned in the tank and had 35+ fry and I thought cool, now puffer man has something he can catch. Wrong again. Idk if my puffer is a punk or if the male convict spent time in the pen (get it?) but any time my puffer got close to the fry the male convict cichlid would bow up and start attacking my puffers eyes. Shortly there after I removed the cichlids, not worth my puffer losing its eyes. Just my experience with trying to keep convicts with a fahaka, your fish might have a different experience. Worth a try, just keep a wary eye...20g mixed reef

I had 6 12" temensis bass before. 1 choked from trying I swallow a fish almost as big as him. I had to yank the fish from its mouth.

Platies eat their own babies. They're going to need hiding places or a little nursery until they're big enough that the biggest one can't fit them in their mouth. Livebearers are like Pez dispensers for their own snack foods.180g - 2 Red Oscars, 1 Tiger Oscar, 1 JD, Convicts, convicts & more convicts
