What's up, fishy friends?!?
So, Shawn is almost back to 100% human now. Yesterday, he went on his first motorcycle ride since his surgery & has been off his pain meds for 2 days. I thought he was going to gnaw his own arm off for a few days. Yogurt, popsicles & eggs just don't fill that meat & potato void but luckily, he's back on some "easy" solid foods now. Upside to all that is he's lost about 15 pounds! He's totally happy about that part.
So, on with my post.
About a month ago, I picked up about 30 Convicts from a lady who wanted to change her current tank to salt. I've never owned Convicts because I heard they were the bunny rabbits of the aquarium world but I had room to house them & had every intention of rehoming them little by little. Well, as things progressed (Grandma & Shawn's health)... wait, that should say declined... as things DECLINED, I let the rehoming issue fall to the wayside. Priorities & such. A few days ago, I noticed what I thought was a BIG pile of poop in the corner of the tank. Upon closer inspection I discovered that it was, in fact, NOT a fantastically sized ball of poop! There has definitely been some unapproved conjugal visits going on while I wasn't lookin cuz there's like 200 babies swimming around in a not so little group with mama & daddy fiercely protecting them. Awww. My first batch of baby bunnies. Convicts anyone?
The Oscars have some new roommates, too & my search for a new Pleco has ended. A lady a couple of streets over from me wanted to break down her tank & needed a new home for her fish. 2 Jack Dempseys, a red fish that I'm not exactly sure of & a common Pleco. I picked them up last night & no one is dead this morning, so that's a plus. However, the bigger Jack Dempsey has beaten himself up pretty bad charging full force into the corners of the overflow column & the driftwood. He seems to have calmed down this morning, but it's probably more exhaustion than anything. All the O's were asleep last night & that sucker was literally bouncing off the walls & the O's. He knocked all the O's on their sides like bowling pins. They looked kinda dead floating on their sides, sleeping, but as entertaining as it was to watch the O's floating around asleep, I felt bad for the little guy.
Gonna do a big water change today, add some salt & hit him with some meds to help speed his healing. Also gonna try to get his decorations from his old tank today. He's used to having somewhere to hide & was the dominant male in his tank so I'm sure seeing the O's must be like I just dropped him into a real life horror flick. The O tank is pretty bare other than a couple of flat rocks & a piece of driftwood so I'm hoping that giving him his old hiding places will make him feel more at ease.
Our 1 remaining Hell's Angel & the one I adopted a while back, from the MTS as substrate lady, are busy laying eggs on a weekly basis (since mid February) & promptly eating them all the next day. Even if they don't eat them, they're probably never going to survive. I've come to the conclusion that they're just not very smart. They've got a piece of slate, a waterfall decoration & plants. They could lay eggs on those, but no. They lay them on the filter intake tube, every week. Maybe they're easier to eat that way? I dunno.
Brandon's GSP (Nicole) that was attacked by his other GSP (Jackson) finally got straight up murdered. I had her almost completely healed & Jackson attacked her again. I came to the conclusion that Brandon should have named them OJ & Nicole. That would have been more fitting for her demise. His Domino Damsels have finally killed everyone, including one of their own. I woke Brandon up this morning & noticed "the remains" of the smallest Damsel. The other 2 smaller ones are remarkably larger this morning as well. Power ups. Who knew?
Well, that's about all the fish tales I have to tell for now. People who say fish are boring have obviously never kept aggressive fish. Never a dull moment!
