Mylossoma are a bit more manageable in size. At an adult length of 8" they are quite a bit smaller, but only occasionally seen. I have seen a few mixed in "common" silver dollar tanks at the big chain stores. There are quite a few different species at those places so I usually keep an eye out. I've seen white Piranha, Red Hooks, Mylossoma, and a plethora of hard to id Metynnis sp. that are not the Argenteus. I imagine they are either wild collected or farmed and it had escaped them they are not what they are supposed to be.

Indeed, I've seen quite a few oddballs that 'mistakenly' were mixed in. The 1" Clariid catfish mixed into 2 dozen kuhli loaches was the strangest one I have seen. I wondered how many did not make the entire trip. There was quite a bit of confusion until I pointed out the long barbels on it and mentioned the entire Genus was illegal to possess in the entire US.

I guess the mix up happens with wild caughts only. People that get paid pennys usaually don't pay attention to detail. Mnemenoi, you are very good with spotting animals and remember scientic names it must come natural to you kind of like math and me natural!

LOL, I am awful at math. Most of it comes from studying old crazy aquarium books when I was a kid. Families and genus are easy manners to identify fish. Mostly size and shape help.
