  • Dust in the tank

There is a constant dust battle in our house due to dogs, cats and birds. Inevitably dust gets in the tank since its open top.

Do you think I should try to cover it and if so how would I go about doing that? It's a 3 foot 65g.

Some glass tops or a canopy, glass tops would be cheapest. Go the the local glass shop and they can cut it to your sizes

I would get a sump so the overflow will skim the top of the water for you or just get lids for the tank

Acrylic/polycarbonate will eventually turn yellowish and cloudy its best to use glass so you ca clean it and scrape with razor blades if needed

Another idea, is to put a good powerhead in the tank with a jet to disrupt the surface agitation and keep the dirt from making a film on the top. Or lower ur water level a lil so ur filters can stir up the dirt and suck it up thru the intakes. But +1 on tops

I've got an AC110 that is doing that, but I still know the dust is getting in there and I figure that's not good for the fish.

even with surface agitation there will always be a dead spot where the top film will accumulate unless u have a overflow that fill filter the top of the water
