  • white sand

will be starting a new tank in a couple of weeks. i have always used Leslie's pool filter sand, which is light brown in color. This time, i want to go the route of white sand. do not want it to be too fine though. what can i go with and where can i get it from. thanks.

Aragonite from Carib-Sea is white and comes in numerous size grades. It is expensive and not inert, it will buffer up and can cause diatom blooms. Eventually it will calm down, but can take awhile unless you leave a micron filter on it for awhile

Oh man. I had the worst diatom problem ever with the Carib-Sea cichlid sand, but it did keep my pH at a nice 8.6.

Try the PFS from TexSun. It's the same size as the Leslie's PFS but it's very light in color. I have that mixed with Leslie's in the Tapajo tank.

          It's a pool supply company, like Leslie's.

Not bleach white. It's looks like it's from a white sand beach, so just a bit tan.

I have some really white fine grain sand in my saltwater tank. I hate the stuff. I am going to change it out soon. Its all yours. I know its salt, but you can easily wash it out.

I thought he didn't want the really fine grain stuff.
