  • High Temp issue

I have a 200g tank in my store and Im having issues keeping the temp down. It has an Eheim 2262 and a wet/dry w/ a mag 12. During the day I run 2 Marineland reef capable LEDS. With the thermostat set at 69* during the day the tank runs at 82-83* with lights on, and at night the store temp is 79* but the tank still gets hotter even with the LED's off and can reach 84-85 at times. There are 2 heaters on the tank but they are set to 75*. I unplugged the heaters just in case they are causing some of the heat issue, but I dont think that is it. Honestly I have never seen the tank go below 80*.

The fish seem fine, but I know if it gets much hotter in there is could kill the fish immediately or cause early death down the road. Should I look at getting a chiller, or is there a simpler solution? I was thinking of cutting some holes in the top of my canopy but since the temp goes up when the lights are off I dont know if that is the issue.

My tanks have never seen below 79 outside of a WC. You might add some active ventilation in the canopy and stand to lower temps

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I know this is not the type of fan yall were talking about but you think this would help at all?

I don't think those will do much for you. Go to EPO and pick up the largest 12V fans you can get your hands on that will fit your stand and canopy and a 12V power supply to handle them all and you're set. You might have to DIY the wiring, but that pretty simple.

You can install pc fans to your canopy to create good airflow. 2 blowing in and 2 blowing out on opposite ends.

If your canopy is open on top add any small fan from Target. I did this on my 300G tank and it easily dropped the temp a few degrees.

I can almost guarantee its the mag 12... point the outputs at the surface to create water agitation. This will help displace some of the heat. Also do you have powerheads in the tank? Or a top on the tank? Both can add heat to the tank

Yep my tanks stay hot because all the pumps create so much heat. I agree with the fan idea, been thinking of doing it myself.

I have to run a box fan in the stand of my 450 just to keep it at 81°F LOL

Are you running it with glass tops and canopy? Glass tops seems to hold in heat also. Try running open top tank and get a 6-9" fan from target or walmart like darbex stated. I'm running a clip on fan on my sump and it keeps it a few degree cooler.

I don't mind the way things are and the fish don't either and I'm not about to take off the tops on that tank. There's so much evaporation from that tank, my AC unit can't keep up, plus the tops keep the fish in the tank especially when the males fight. There's always a reason for me doing what I do the way I do it and there's compromises involved simply because I live in an apartment
