  • What to feed my micro fish

So I have schools of Gertrudae Rainbowfish and Bororas brigittae (thanks to homeless aquatics). I've been feeding them crushed flakes or small NLS pellets. I want to have a variety of food for them. I've looked online and read that baby brine shrimp works well for them. Doesn't look that difficult to hatch the brine shrimp but I think I'd only do this once or twice a week. I've also read that feeding them baby brine encourages breeding. Anyone have any input or suggestions on what to feed these tiny fish.

On a side my dozen or so longfin red minor serpae tetra eat pretty much anything thrown in a the water.

NLS makes flakes too, pretty much all you need.

NLS flakes is all you really need to feed them.

Live food encourages breeding though. Brine shrimp can be easy to hatch, but only the baby ones are packed with nutrition. They grow fast, so each day they grow, their nutrition decreases significantly. You would have to either dehydrate them or freeze them after they hatch before the day ends to keep it a viable food source, but then, it wouldn't be live anymore. Chester, I have microworms that will work much better. It's not as messy and doesn't need as much equipment to keep alive. All you need is a container, yeast, some kind of starch, water, and of course the microworms. Their nutrient quality doesn't diminish as they get older too. By the time they colonize the container, you'll have billions of microworms in there.

I feed my Bororas brigittae First Bites occasionally, they seem to like it.

It's pretty pricey and it doesn't come in a big container like NLS flakes.

It's actually not that smelly. It only gets smelly if you leave it too long without restarting it. I actually just restarted a colony, didn't think to record it though. It's really simple. I can explain if you get some.

Tiny fish, tiny tummies. It lasts a good long while, especially when used as discussed here...as a supplement to vary diet. We also feed flake.

If you want to wait lol. I have some right now. I've got 6 cultures running. Most of the people who have microworms use oatmeal for them. That stuff makes it super stinky.

Mine love cyclops. I get the PE frozen cyclop-eeze from FG or Xtreme, comes in cubes. A sliver is more enough for all my boraras and CPDs. They're very tiny! Drop by if you want a few cubes to try out.
