You would probably have better luck at making money by throwing coins into a fountain and making a wish to win the lottery..

Tim doesn't make much money out of importing as you can tell by the very low prices he offers. Honestly, I agree with Hangman. A couple hundred a month from breeding is stretching it if you're treading in deep waters.
Also in your op you said you wanted to support your growing family.

Keeping fish is a hobby where you throw thousands at it and never, ever, EVER expect to get a return on it. That's just the way this hobby is. The amount of money you would have to sink into having a large enough breeding setup to earn that amount of cash.. Well let me put it this way, if you're hoping to help support your family... You're more likely to make them very mad about the meals they're going to have to skip.

Everyone has said the same thing over and over, but same opinion here. As a beginner, you will never turn that kind of profit. Even a few hundred a month is high expectations, not to mention the startup cost. Added onto startup cost you cant just pick a fish, throw them in a tank and expect them to breed/survive. There is a lot of chemistry and conditions that need to be satisfied that are species specific for breeding, so that is why more experienced individuals do it. Granted there are species like mollies, platys, moons, guppies, etc. that are that easy (throw in tank and let them breed)...but you wont see any money from them.
Its the experience of growing out your own from juvis to adults to breeding and finally raising fry (which depending on the species can take quite a while). Profit really doesnt factor into the equation at all when you keep aquariums. The most rare fish people will pay for take more than a beginner level to keep. And like others said...most pet stores will give you next to nothing if anything. Plus being connected to eachother here, we trade and sell cheap. You will need a customer base, but if the stock is poor quality, nobody will come back.

Most Fish take 14 to 16 weeks and some longer. to get to a size big enough to sale. If you have 150 Juv. fish the LFS. will pay about $1.00 or less. For your fish. (if they will buy them at all) Go get a real job. Work hard save your money. The Aqarium hobby is not cheep. Or you could buy My hole setup for about $2500.00.
Good luck.Nothing Kills Evil Like a Sharp Stick...

if we are lucky and the buy that get them breeding can nearly make enough to cover their hobby. if you were extremely educated in the matter you could maybe make some cash. i know of people who are award aquarist and do other peoples landscapes for a charge and maintenance.
