I read that as "FISH PREFER it SHORT"...

My question is this...how do you restrain the fish so as to perform the decisive stoke?
Wouldn't do to cut the Swordtail in half, or remove anything else other than the target object...guess you'd also have to wear some a those high magnification Dollar Store reading glasses.
I think it'd be easier just to buy some more males from a LFS and forget the whole breeding thing!

LMAO!! Well, if I DID have swordtails that had gonopodiums too long, they wouldn't be long for long...hehehe...

I would put the fish on damp towel (facing this way __><>), wet my hands in tank water mixed with stress coat stuff, and with my left hand, press on him very lightly and then, in one swift movement, move his gonopodium away from his body and trim it to a more "normal" length. LOL! after that, I would put some stress coat in a plastic container (or a goldfish bowl) of water and let him hang out a few hours like a betta (maybe with an air stone) and then move him back into the tank.   Sooooooo easy!!!

It's not really a big deal if you don't humanize the fish so much! LOL! You know, it has been debated that fish might not even be able to feel pain like we do. I'm not going to argue about the issue though because I really don't know LOL! In the end, if one were trying to breed these things, the way I described would probably be the best way to do it!  :axe:
