IMO, its really a waste of money. More hassle then its really worth. For regular evaporation a couple gallons of water isn't much to whip up.

In most respects, I agree with this statement. By the time you set up the system with its myriad complexities, you've spent quite a bit of money. Then you have to monitor the system continually. You have to (unless you're on a well) dechlorinate continuously. Your water bill (again, unless you're on a well) will go up considerably. IMO, not worth the cost of set-up and operation, considering the return.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
IMO, it is worth the hassle if properly set up with an activated/catalytic carbon prefilter and an accurate flow meter to regulate water input to about 10% of tank volume daily, which will still equate to about 70% weekly WC. Once set up, maintenance will be low requiring monitoring of water parameters and filter efficiency.
I'm with Mark - Definitely in her situation. She would have to reroute a water line that isn't hooked up to her water softener, which was only 1 backyard hose if I remember right. A whole lot of money for all that work to take away from a 50% bi-weekly water change that takes 45min-hour on her light load 200g tank. Don't get me wrong, that would be a badass system if it was pulled off and working as intended, just quite a hassle
It is something I'm planning to do when I move into a house. Main tank will be next to the kitchen so I can tie into the sink plumbing for draining and filing via carbon filter and my fish room will drain into the lawn/garden. Automatic constant WC FTW
