    Re: Pleco maintainence

Zucchini from what I have been told is the best thing for plecos to eat. Blanching does loose some of it natural nutritional content. But your the lazy type & not have time or if your getting senile & forget to remove it then blanching is best for you.

Its all up to what best suits you & your fish.

I dont think its the brand.  Ive fed my plecos probably about 3 different brands - your ordinary algae wafers nothing special, and they eat it all the same.  They will eat the algae wafers but is one algae wafer per pleco enough food for a day?  All 14 of them just eat, poop, and swim, very easy lives haha

Anyone have any good zucchini-sinking tricks?

Push a stainless steel spoon through it. If you tie a length of fishing line to it you can pull it out without displacing water.

I blanch my zuchinni till its translucent, (especially for the young ones) then it will sink. I have also speared it with a metal fork or nutpick, after less blanching. Freezing helps too, breaks it down a bit, and it sinks. All my plecos love Hikari wafers, as do the platys, discus and tetras.

I don't know if 1 per day is enough, but since they eat the algae in the tank, and the wafers, I guess that is enough. I have 16 Plecos, and they are all growing bigger; my Common Browns are getting really big.
              So, I guess it's enough.

I have 14 plecos in the tank, their is no algae that grows naturally, so i guess 1 wafer/pleco is not enough

                  Re: Pleco maintainence

I know I have a strange question... last night it looked like one of my common pleco's tried to "mount" the other one.  The one being mounted didnt seem to move or do anything to fight off the attention..   Is this normal ?

Are they still in the "teenager" faze?

It could very well be that the algae is just kept in check by the plecos. I think it's impossible not to have algae in an aquarium.

Are all your plecos ABNs? If so, I'm pretty sure 1 algae wafer/pleco is plenty.

Mine also love Hikari wafers... 8)  They're not picky.

Oh, and Z - for how long is the one "mounting" the other? Is it a very involved process, or just kinda nonchalant? Sometimes my two commons just don't seem to care where the other one is, and swim all over each other.
