  • Canister conversion?

I recently bought a 75g tank and supplies from a lady who had the tank set-up as a salt water. It came with two canister filters (penn-plax cascade 700 and the other was unbranded but the sticker says: HW-303B). I plan on using the tank as a freshwater. Can I use the same canister filters? Do I need to clean them? How so?

    Thanks!

IMO: Yes you can use the old filters. I would trash the old media and get that new. Clean everything else every well. You should be good.

Clean the media. Remove anything belong to salt before using it for FW

Clean them and use them. Watch for leaks.

Well I did this conversion a long time ago so I dont remember. However one should be a ground and the other the power. It may not matter.

              second this one

i never used canisters before i bought my 75 gal off a member here who was moving. the cascade 700 was running when i got there just using a bucket to prove it worked. but the cascade 1000 he gave has a motor problem.

the conversion to FW should be fine, just echoing use different media. i use maxtrix stones and purigen in the cascade and it works fantastic so far. the purigen you can recharge unlike carbon and its worth the investment IMO
