  • Hi everyone!

Hello, I just joined the community and thought I'd introduce myself as well as ask for any ideas. My name is Monette and I've been a fish enthusiast for a good couple of years now. I have 4 tanks of tropical fish, all non aggressive. Here's my question, for Christmas I received a 50 gal tall set up. It's been cycling for about a month now and it's almost at the end of it's cycle. I'm really looking forward to stocking it, but because of the tallness of the tank I'm not sure what would be comfortable in it. I currently have two serpae tetra in it (I know I need more so I'm going to expand the school, they were kind of a rescue) so I'm wondering what would be compatable with those fish and the tall tank. I'd like to do semi aggressive, can I? Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated! Here is a picture of the tank to give an idea of how tall it is.

    Thanks!

    Thank you!

You could easily do a single angel fish and probably a single ram or some type of appistograma

I was thinking an angel fish, but everything I've read about them suggests a long tank instead of a tall. I wasn't sure if the tall would pose a problem. I'm planning on having a nice school for the serpae tetra since that tones down the aggression they can have. So far with my two there haven't been any problems (thank goodness). I'm thinking a school of 6-8.

      Thank you!

Angels actually need more height than length but maybe they need long tanks as well in order for them to swim around...but the serape tetras sounds good

Ok, maybe I will look into them again. It's been awhile haha. Any ideas for the bottom of the tank?

          Thank you!

Rams are primarily bottom dwellers and there are quite a few different kinds to decide from as well German blue, Bolivian, gold, and electric blue and they are a dwarf cichlid but are community safe

There are a lot of different tetras that go from mid to high range swimming. danios are good top level swimmers and not aggressive. cories are good for the bottom, or things like weather or kuhli loaches (which can burrow or go into filters).

with serapes i have kept things like black skirts, lamp eyes, buenos aries, congos, small grouamis (like flames, turquoise, etc.), harlequins...the tetra family is seemingly limitless for compatibility.

I have long black skirt tetras in my tank with GBR and they play well. Tetras hang in middle to top of tank.

Nice looking tank. Tetras are cool but always look best in big groups. About 30 of anything you choose.
Ram are geo's and sift sand. Cory's are nice bottom feeders.
