  • Pool Filter Sand

Anyone have a general rule of thumb about how many pounds of LFS per gallon? I'm looking to buy enough for a 135 gallon tank, at least an inch or so deep, maybe 1.5".

Personal preference but I'd say 1lb/gallon

I'd say 2-3 bags (only come in 50#) so if you have any extra you can keep it in case or use it in the garden... at $10-15 a bag its a decent price and way lower then what specialty substrates run

Yep 3 bags should be enough.

We have found that if you perform a sand change when the water doesn't stay clear that is the best way to make sure your sand filter will perform at its best. If you do this you shouldn't need to use a sand filter cleaner.

Yeah 3 bags of pool filter sand #20 are enough for you tank because if the sand's quantity is more then its also not good and it can be a cause for irritation of fishes in the tank. But if you already done then please share how much you used?

sountfc, I used 150lbs in my 4 foot 150g. I think footprint is a big factor to take into consideration. I just setup a 8 foot 240g and used 100lbs black diamond.

I still haven't done it yet. Just moved back into my house after massive construction and the tank hasn't been set back up yet.
