    Re: Canister Filter Question...

I am running the Fx5 on my 300, in conjuction with a W/D system.  It seem to be doing great.  It replaced 2 Mag.350's, and for the price I don't think you can beat it, just M/O

        Re: Canister Filter Question...

        Chris,

I would replace any hose clamps and clean out your suction and discharge lines of your 2250.  Also, get a new O-ring for the case lid of the 2250. If that O-Ring goes bad or starts to get cracks init, the unit can suck air.  Another thing I would do is get a new O-ring for the pump case impeller cover and the suction intake tube elbow.

So that is like 3 O-rings, 3 or 4 hose clamps, and a case O-ring.

When doing all this work, take the pump off the top of the canister and submerge it into an aquarium and turn it on.  See if the output stream is as powerful as you think it should be.  IF it is not then it might be time for a new 2250 impeller.

Chris on my 125 I run (2) XP4's with 25 Tropheus in there.  The tank stays sparkling clear.

On my 115 have 30 Tropheus, and I run the Eheim 2260 and that tank is sparkling clear.

I have (2) FX5's on my 300 gallon, and I am thinking of replacing them because they have a lot of shortfalls and some by-pass that I just dont care for.

My 180 gallon aquariums have the Eheim 2262 canister on them, and that thing is a bad-***. It is the same canister as the 2260 but it comes with the 1262 pump, instead of the standard 1260 pump.  It also comes with all the doulbe tap valves.  With the 1262 pump the canister flows over 900 gph, its a beast!!

I have had no first hand experience with Jebo, but almost everyone I know who has them, they regret having them becuase they are cheap and break.  You get what you pay for...when it works it does great, when it breaks its hard to get replacement parts, and well...for the price just go buy a new one.

        Its up to you...

For what it's worth, I have an eheim 1260 pump working in one one of my wet/dry filters and it has been going strong for over 14yrs now.

Just a note for future searchers.  I got a 2217 for my 75 gallon tank and now I'm wishing I got two 2213s or 2215s.  Having redundancy, the options to choose different media in each and locations of outputs would be nice.  Not that I can't go back and add something now to my 2217 or that it isn't doing it's job just would have liked to know this when I started.

              Chris,

I understand your requirement of needing to use canister over a wet/dry.

              Eheim 2250 -- 12L of filter space - size 355mm x 415mm -- 1200L / hour
              Eheim 2260 -- 18L of filter space - size 355mm x 570mm -- 2400L / hour
              Eheim 2262 -- 18L of filter space - size 355mm x 570mm -- 3400L / Hour

Conversions for those who wants the answers NOW

              Eheim 2250 -- 3.2gal of filter space - size 14" x 16.4" -- 316gal / hour
              Eheim 2260 -- 4.7gal of filter space - size 14" x 22.5" -- 632gal / hour
              Eheim 2262 -- 4.7gal of filter space - size 14" x 22.5" -- 895gal / Hour

Yes there is a noticeable difference between the three.

That's what's up!!! Let's me try and track down those O-Rings and stuff Geoff...Otherwise, I may just give that Rena a shot until I can get the Eheim fixed.

Geoff, after reading your msg., I'm a lil' confused. Are you suggesting 3 or 4 O-Ring replacements b/c I seem to only be reading 3.

I would replace any hose clamps and clean out your suction and discharge lines of your 2250.  Also, get a new O-ring for the case lid of the 2250. Re: Canister Filter Question...

                  Chris,

I dont have a parts breakdown of the 2250, but I beleive it is similiar to like the 2260.

There is O-ring in the lid that is notorious for leaking after about 7-10 years, and there is a O-ring in the intake tube/elbow of the piece that connects the pump ontop to the canister.  There is 2-orings on that part I think.  Then there is a O-ring on the pump front case that covers the impeller.

So, that should be about 3 orings you can get easy at any hardware store for about $3, and then the case O-ring might be had at a hardware store, but it would be better to get that at fish store for about $10.

IF any of the Techs you work with, some of your mechanics might have O-ring glue for making your own o-rings might be able to help you make one for the lid real easy.

My suggestion is to use Viton, epr would be better, you just got to be careful not to use any petroleum based lubricant on EPR orings it breaks them down over time.

I would check that all your hose clamps on the suction is tight or replaced, you may want to also replace the O-ring on the bottom of the filter where the suction intake nozzle go thru the canister case.

                    Re: Canister Filter Question...

Check for air leaks. With some pumps if it gets any kind of air it will cause the you to lose pressure in the canister.
