Soft water tanks/ low Ph tanks can be very rewarding but I am completely onboard with them being a PITA. Very hard to maintain and completely weird water parameters. Ours was very informative to us, but eventually we gave it up. We will likely do another some day, but it would be better thought out and correct from the build out. I will say that those fish looked amazing once the Ph completely started to fall. Not sure what we exactly hit (PH kit only goes to 6.0) but it was well under that, I'd guess towards a 5.0

I would more agree with Roy too. Even if limestone or another emitting agent was in the rocks, they would never bump pH up that much over the span of a week. rocks in hard water will not increase pH all that much anyway. and yes, softer tanks are a pain when i tried in the past :)
i am in copperfield....troy is in katy...and we have very similar params out of the tap from past posts. you are close enough to me that i would more lean to the pH is higher than the reading is saying, or the kit may be out of date.
you are right. the fish will adapt. they are kept in higher pH in stores, and if locally bred are used to it already. just slow acclimate new additions. my tetra tank is fine and settles around 7.6-7.8 or so over time.
