  • 1st grade fish tank

OriGinally setup the tank with organic soil and sand cap. Started getting nasty mold or something in the tank, was gross. Took it apart and just put in sand. Added plants. Herr is what it looks like today. Kids are super excited. Adding fish next week. Any recomendations on fish that will do good in a 10 gal and are hardy. Wont be fed on weekends. uploadfromtaptalk1392160896969.jpg

live-bearers such as mollies and platies. Gouramis also would do well in the mix

Danios, some of the larger tetra (black neons, bleeding hearts), Paradise fish who have a great story involving children, Platies, White Cloud Mountain fish have a cool story as well involving children

in a 10 gallon, most assuredly. With some peppered corydoras and solid water changes there is a good chance they would breed

No that should be workable. Some of the larger sailfins would be tight, but dalmations seem to stay a bit smaller in my experience. Endlers might offer a bit more breeding activity and more fish.

I like the Endlers. If my fish didn't eat all mine I cold have given you some.

LOL, yeah ours took over the 2.5 gallon and quickly decided they would overtake all our tanks so we gave about 50 away. We started with 3 and this was 4 months later...lol

i say it would be ok. If you can add some more plants and keep up with water changes you can pull it off

They should grow fine if you have the proper light... Only problem is the fish might pull them out of the sand. I've grown in playsand before . Fish water will be converted to nutrients for plants and plants will oxygenate for fish

Some planted tanks can keep pace with Nitrates, but it has a low bioload with dense planting and higher lighting. You would need to pack the tank with plants otjerwise water changes would be helpful and most likely needed until your plants could keep up. Testing will let you know when your Nitrates level off and cant seem to rise. A few folks on here keep endlers and aquabid are good spots. I recommend getting a decent strain as a lot of recent folks have been looking and you might be the only source for that strain in Houston
