  • Help identify this eel!

A buddy of mine got this guy before he moved down here and decided to put him in my tank instead, I have no idea what type of eel it is and would like to find out.uploadfromtaptalk1393617853559.jpg

"Freshwater" Snowflake Eel - Gymnothorax tile
Note: these are not actually fresh water, the juveniles spend some time in lower brackish conditions and eventually the adults move into full marine, returning for short times to breed in harder fresh water conditions.

I usually see them for around $20 for that specific species. The 2 other species that are occasionally seen in the hobby are quite a bit more costly, though they share the formers marine/high end brackish requirements for adults. The Pink Lipped Moray (Echidna rhodochilus) and the Freshwater Moray (Gymnothorax polyuranodon) both command higher prices (upwards of $100 or far more for very large giants) if and when specimens are available and sold.

No sweat, I see them regularly at a few different stores in town. Try Fish R Us, Extreme fish, City Pets, and Houston Aquatics. I'd call first, but most have a few in stock that they have had instead of wasting the drive down. Most can order a few if you are hunting them as well.

I am going to try and get rid of him. I am selling this tank because I don't have room for it anymore.
