I would save all old water and top off with new water.

Bacteria attaches to the media. Saving old water is a waste of time. Just use the same filters and don't rinse the media with tap.

Not a total waste, it will make matching the other parameters and the temperature easier, but as far bacteria it won't be much help

Parameters are constantly changing. You think the nitrates are the same today that they were a week ago? Treat it as a water change.

Of course not. But they will hardly change in the hour it takes to set up

You can go either way on this one but i always use some of my old water when moving fish to an unestablished tank.

True. It's not like it will hurt

If you gotta pay $5 per bucket it will hurt lol

I've got 3 buckets and 4 15 gallon tubs, so I think I'm good, but I get what you're sayin

You should already have the filter for the 125 set up and cycling. This will save you time cycling the new tank. As for the water either way but I would do it like a water change.

I've got all the filters for it cycled already, I'm just pulling them off the 55 and hooking them up to the 120
