The Demise and Rebirth of Fish Ranch…

For the last few weeks I’ve been a bit secretive about this, but now the time has come to “let the cat out of the bag” as all of the proper notices have been given. I apologize for any misdirection that I may have had to use.

Fish Ranch as a viable entity has not existed since October 2007. The store at 6734 Larkwood Drive that has been operating under that name has a new owner and is actually organized under the name Tropical Fish & Seahorse, LLC and is also under the d/b/a of 1-800-SEAHORSE.

I was hired to run the shop at 6734 Larkwood (1-800-SEAHORSE) by the new owner. Well, we honestly just don’t see eye to eye on how to run a shop, so I put in my 2 weeks notice in January.

During the course of my employment, I tried (as well as others), on several occasions, to get the new owner to use, register, and protect the Fish Ranch name. He declined to do so, preferring the 1-800-SEAHORSE name.

I decided that the best way for me to run a fish store the best way I know how was for me to be the owner. I obtained the d/b/a for Fish Ranch in both Harris and Fort Bend counties, filed articles of formation with the State of Texas, obtained a Federal Employer Identification Number, and obtained a Texas Sales and Use Tax Permit. I found a partner in this endeavor and set out to obtain financing. We have obtained the necessary financing and have begun the buildout of the location.

I feel like Fish Ranch has had a reputation as a store where you can get out of the ordinary stuff and also has had a reputation for having the best selection of species in the Houston area. It has been one of Houston’s best true hobbyist fish stores for a number of years. I did not feel like this reputation would be able to continue under the new owner of 1-800-SEAHORSE. It is my intention to continue this tradition of Fish Ranch being a true hobbyist’s fish store.

The new Fish Ranch is scheduled to open on March 19, 2008. The address is 939 Third Street, Rosenberg, Texas, 77471. The phone number is 832-595-2777 or 1-877-58-RANCH. The website, though not operational yet, is www.fish-ranch.com. I hope to be able to see all of you out there. The new Fish Ranch will be a big supporter of Houston Fish Box and all of the other clubs.

    Let the fun begin…

Fantastic news Charles.  I knew something had to be up with everything being low key.

With your experience and being the owner I'm sure you will be very successful.

It's a great location...the right price...one of the fastest growing areas in the state...I live in Sugar Land...there's no competition there (unless you count Petco...and I don't )

I was just out there, in Rosenberg...not much farther from my house than Mike's.
I will probably be doing my work out there soon, maybe I'll see you more than you want,Charles.

Theres an untapped market in Huntsville. Theres not even a petco/petsmart there.
