  • Best place for budget driftwood?

does anyone have any recommendations for budget driftwood?  i've been to city pets and they have a nice selection but they seemed really expensive to me... $40-90 for big pieces mounted to slate.  or is that typical pricing?

i've already got a bunch of slate laying around, so bare wood is fine with me.

    thanks!!!!

If you can wait a few weeks, the HAS auction will have some driftwood. If I remember correctly, some nice pieces went for way cheap.

I've herd that you can have your pick of all that floats up to the north ferry landing.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

As mentioned earlier driftwood on the lakes is pretty inexpensive. 8)

when you pull it from lakes & streams do you need to treat it somehow?

It wouldn't hurt to run it under a hot shower for a few. Look the item over closely, if it looks clean, then your probably ok. But, there's a slight chance that any object taken from that kind of environment could be contaminated with some foreign material that could be harmful to fish, so I would clean it throughly and then soak it for a while in salt water, then clean again, then I would buy me some guppies and use them as ginnea pigs to see if they survive being kept with the driftwood in a cooler or large tub.

                OR NOT...overkill some might say...???
