  • Food distribution parity

I have 7 black tetra that I bought all at the same time and were the same size. Now, two months late, I have noticed some are quite larger than others.

I have been feeding them about ~3 1mm NLS pellets a day each but just throwing in 20-25 everyday. Is that a reasonable amount?

Sometimes I break it up and give 10 pellets 2 times per day, might that be the cause of some fish eating more than others?

That's a lot food. Some may be uninterested with that many feedings. I feed every other day with enough that they devour in a minute.

I have black skirt tetras too, two are a fair bit smaller than the other 4. I wouldn't worry about it.

Females do get larger with roe. It sounds like enough food.

My 7 fish will destroy 20 pellets in about 15 seconds. If I gave them so much that it required a minute it would probably be 50 of the 1mm NLS pellets. I count them out to give about the same everyday.

That sounds like plenty of food though?

I over feed. I feed ones a day and they finish in sec.s. But on water change day I don't feed at all.
Tetras are great looking little fish. Wished I could keep them.

As long as they look healthy and not emaciated they should be fine

i have a few black skirts and some are noticeably larger. nothing is wrong with them as females do get larger. as long as they are happily eating. i personally only feed once a day, regular tetra color flakes. whatever they dont eat my plecos clean up. fish honestly dont need all that much per day to stay healthy, and can go quite a while without eating and still be ok.

In the past. I have had large groups of neons and cardinals. Love the way they all school together.
I agree with every one. As long as they eat.
