  • Breaching pleco

Alright, a few nights ago I heard a gurgle sound from the aquarium. My first thought was the pump quit. Checked and the pump was still running. Everything else seemed normal, so I shrugged it off. Heard it again tonight. My wife says " what is the pleco doing? " so I get up to look at the tank. I can't see him at first, but then I can see the trail by the bamboo. I open the lid and he is out of the water sucking on the edge of the return on the flyer filter. Right after I notice he guess back into the water. Just wondering if this is common or not. I have not seen this before.

They can breach often and are actually from oxygen defecient areas of the Amazon and can breathe air for quite awhile out of water. I've seen folks find them after 4-6 hrs out of water and they are fine once tossed back in

I had one that liked to get in to the HOB filter. He just like being on the spillway.

That is what he was on. I have an emperor 400. He was half in and half out of the water. Wish I could have gotten a picture.

I am bad about not taking pictures. Every one loves pictures here. So I try to keep taking a few now and then.
