This trip was to Boston so I had no fear about returning safe.  Bolivia is going to be early April...that's the one that has me nervous, but I'm checking into the collection possibility and hopefully I can come back with some great fish!  <crossing>

guygeek sent me photos of the fish while I was in Boston, and here's one after Choppers had a 'pellet party'.  He's all belly!!

      Hes overfed.

Yep.  He is.  We learned to pull back on the pellets because they will eat until they are like this.   8O   Don't call FPS on us...this doesn't happen at every feeding.

Its ok, i learnt the bad way that i cant put ANY fish in with frank. I was hoping hed only eat when he was hungry...Wrong.

6 Rosie reds gone in the time it took to catch the other 4. Frank sitting on the bottom of the tank 'panting'. That was when i first got him, he ate so much i thought he might die.

They are total gluttons, aren't they?

Hey...any idea if the pellets, unsoaked, could break their teeth?  I've been soaking them, but maybe unsoaked pellets would help with the teeth growth?

My Fahaka puffer will eat Tetra Jumbo sticks, Hikari sinking carnivore pellets, any brand of shrimp pellets, as well as shrimp/krill (frozen or dry), frozen clams, frozen squid, frozen smelts, fresh or frozen blue crab legs (shell included), live night crawlers, and excess MT snails. A few months ago, Philbert came by and gave my Fahaka a bowl full of excess pond snails. They were gone in one day :!:

Nick - I was reading your post and when I got to the part about Philbert, I expected it to say "A few months ago, Philbert came by and my puffer ate him too...."

Or rather I don't know of fish who live a long life with puffers.  I had a fugu that was awesome.  He loved to bury himself in cichlid sand and await dinner.  I fed him blood worms and feeder rosys.  He lived a couple of months with a ghost shrimp he decided to eat.  He was very entertaining and worth the investment.  His name was H.R. Fondren Fish 'n' Pets had them a few months ago for 14.99. They were green and white with a mark like that of a  cobra on their back. Beautiful!8)

green and white sounds like the spotted puffer... or dragonfish or maybe dwarf puffer but those usuly only sells for less then 5 bucks.    the only 100% freshwater puffer is the dwarf puffer that is commonly available, other are very hard to get... i been wanting to get a redeye, but for some reason all the place i saw that has it, leaves it in full salt or brackish water... it should be a full freshwater puffer...

                                Re: fresh water puffers ?

We just changed our 45 hex so we could have puffers. I currently have 3 little guys (dwarf figure 8's) and a greeen scat in there. I had 4 puffers and we lost one within a day or so after introducing them to there new home. We also lost a mono that was in there at the same time. This is an established tank and all seem to be doing fine now. The scat seems to be a little agressive towards the puffers and they dont seem to be very active because of this. Any ideas???   Dither fish or get more scats or monos.  I just want to make sure I am headed in the right direction here and wanted to lean on the experts here.

Sorry..not trying to highjack this thread just seemed like the right place to ask the question.
There is no "normal" life, it's just life so get on with it.
