will the severum not eat the tetra since theyre so small? I had some problems when I had tiger barbs before getting sucked into the overflow. with fish that small, should that be a concern?

the larger tetra species mentioned earlier in the thread get into the 3 inch range (buenos aries, congo, emperor, diamond, red blue columbian, bleeding heart). the severums are accepting of tetras and dont really bother them at all, and would not be able to swallow them. neither would terrors. if you introduce them all around the same time (young severums and tetras first) then let them all grow out together. i wouldnt be worried about them getting sucked into the overflow at that size either.

does anyone have any recommendations of where the best place to go for these fish? buenos aries, congo, red blue columbian, bleeding heart tetras. or are these commonly stocked at most locations?

I'd check with ADG and HAW by default

went to adg and picked up 2 red severums and the guy convinced me with price and word that serpae tetras would work fine in addition. hope I didn't make a decision to regret later.

How much on severums? Don is a great guy and wouldn't steer you wrong. I'm looking to sell my 8" male to get a few females.

serapes would still work fine. they are a little smaller than the other types listed, but don is honest and gives good advice.

as for where to get the other type of tetras, they are pretty common in many stores. fish gallery and fishland normally have most of them. just call around before running all over the place to save the trips

the 2 severum stay on opposite sides of the tank usually, seems 1 has set up a territory and pushes the other away. they both seem just content to chill in the corners. the tetras are usually swimming all over the place. when the lights go off at night they usually are hanging out swimming together, but during the day they just chill. This sound normal?

The severums will take some time to get adjusted and if they stay away from each other that is ok. Could be all their lives, they never had so much room and so few tankmates. They might be enjoying the room. Consider after a few weeks, getting another severum or maybe 2 more severums and you will see a whole different situation. My severums mostly hang together but there is often one or two hanging by themselves.
