City Pets only had Brightwell Rio Escuro last time I was in there, its been years since I saw ADA there (well after ADG stopped selling it to them, that was their supplier). I use Brightwell, its a bit more expensive and is on par with ADA without the insane Ammonia burn. Its an entirely aesthetic choice, both work as well for their buffering capacity. The powder type tends to compact a bit more, and differs slightly on the initial Ph swing, but once its up and going should not be an issue. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

All those are Ph buffering, so will lower your Ph. Essentially you can add tap and exhaust it quickly should you want, but it is cheaper to get an inert substrate then. So if lower Ph is your desire, I assume you are wanting one of the CRS/CBS Tibee line. ADA or Brightwell will last longer, but you will need a remineralizer and TDS meter. I have seen it done without them, but its just an accident waiting to happen. Especially as the substrate eventually exhausts in a year. If you are desiring CPD's they prefer harder water similar to our tap, 8.0 ish as they hail from Myanmar, near Lake Inle.In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
