    So, the hobby has hit me hard.... only a month and a half into the hobby  I already have   a 50 & 60 gallon
    50 = community
    60=  semi aggresive

    Now I have added a 135   =  chiclids... I have 4 in there now, they came with the tank and not sure as to what they are... the previous owner did not know for sure....

    so It was really dirty.... the coral has algee growth and stains..... I have about 6 large peices and would like to clean them... what is the best way to clean?

    the previous owner says he cleaned the tank once about every 4 months... tremmindious amount a fish pop cluttered the gravel...and hardly changed the water. we cleaned a little..(not super clean) because I wanted the tank to stay cycled and the fish to feel at home... I am gonna fix this tank nice....I hope the fish will like my maintenance program..

    thanks and as soon as I have it how I want it, I will post up some pics.....
    Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

          Not a clown loach--- a leporinus fasciatus (sp?)

          You also have a M. auratus and what looks to be a Texas cichlid

            You can bleach the coral if you want them to be white (assuming they are supposed to be white). Just be sure to wash it off well afterward. I use a toothbrush and elbow grease to get algae like that off of the ornaments.

                thanks Homeless..... Does the coral soak up the bleach.... and should I allow it to sit in the sun for a couple days... so not to introduce the beach that may have soaked in.... back into the tank.... did that make since?

                should I use a 4-1 mix.... 1 part bleach and 4 parts water..... I just want to do it right... and not harm the fish

                  Yeah, just pull the ornaments out and scrub them.  Most of the plastic ornaments won't stain like real rocks will because they aren't porous and whatever gunk is on them can be scrubbed off.  You may can put them in the dishwasher and try that as well but more than likely just going to take some elbow grease like Tim says.

                    cichlidfan..... thanks... I will be actually improving on the look of this tank..... thinking about making a skirt for the bottom to hide the doors... (out of aliminum) and then custom painting the skirt.... will go nice with what I do here at my shop.. I have great plans....

                    I also make signs... so how is ths for an idea...  taking pictures of each fish.... listing thier info and names... and framing each picture and hanging behind the tank.... so when people admire the tank, they can educate themself about the fish they are enjoying.....

                        Just make sure you get something that will not out grow the tank

                          you guys beware.... I am not the average person.... when I do things I go full blast.... I have questions about the trickle filter but that will be another day... as I see flaws in the design and will engineer my own system.... much research to do.... but current system has no flow..... at least not what I think it should be.... it trickles out and trickles in..... not sure how effective the current system is...... it obviously worked for the previous owner.... but I think we can build it bigger, better, stronger... LOL...... we will see....   so I hope not to annoy.... but to bring a little interest..... thanks guys... great help..

                              It might just be easier to dump the fake saltwater deco and get some holey rock or something more appropriate for the fish that you plan to keep.  If you like the deco that you have and would like to purchase some new stuff, T N' T has a wide variety of items that large for sale.  Their address should be in the store map on this site.
