They don't call'em pea puffers for nothing.[grn] I had read 4 in a 10gal but wanted to see what Troy said and how well his are doing. I swear they're like little helicopters with big eyes that move independent of each other.

You can put 4 puffers in a 10 gallon?
How big can they get?

Yes they do. Saw 2 fahakas at city pets last week and 2 dog face. I love dogface, I love fahaka, I love them all. LOL My brother had a porcupine puffer. Made me real jealous. lol

You could put more then 4 in a 10g tank. But 4 is a safe number. my pea's are about a half an inch. very small. They may reach 1 1/2 in. but most never get any bigger. My wife's are lost in the tank. I see one about every other day. There is plenty of food in the tank. When we stop seeing snails we will start to feed them but right now they are doing a great job.

I need to get my hand on this pea puffer to solve snail infestation issue. Would they be safe with other cichlids? I have cardinal tetra and guppies in the 10 gallon planted tank.

They're so tiny I'd be afraid they might get eaten. I've heard mixed results with having them with other fish. Since they hover and can move straight up, backwards... like a helicopter, they're pretty good at ambusing other fish.

Most of my cichlids could eat them but they are not aggressive to other fish. Snails, Small Shrimp, and clams are food.

a lot keep them as a species tank. i too heard mixed results of putting them with other fish since they can get a little nasty. depends on the cichlids you are talking about mixing them with...like shellies? larger types will eat them (or try). either way i wouldnt

mine are only about an 1-1.5" and i have had them well over a year. i think they top out around 1.5" or so

even with eachother they can get testy. that is why you need those line of sight breaks. i think they recommend 1 puffer per 5 gallons technically, but i think that is conservative. if you have more females than males thats best

They're pretty grumpy little buggers. I wouldn't put it past them to go after your fry. They're pretty territorial. My 2 argued over a sea shell all the time. lol But they were boy and girl and maybe that's why they never killed each other.

Are they alone in the 40gal? Gosh I bet they are like little dots in there.

They really are adorable. I remember I had a big ghost shrimp that was picking on my little girl puffer so I had to remove it. LOL I'm surprised she didn't bite it's head off.

How many puffers do you have, and are they pea puffers?

+1 for a Puffers or shrimps tank. I have both but the Puffers are so cute and more interesting to watch
