  • Sunset Platys...could be pregnant?

I have two sunset platys in my tank, they both came from the Petco here in College Station because...well there are no decent fish stores in the general area. Throughout the past few weeks I've noticed they both seem to be really round which leads me to suspect they are pregnant. It's also difficult for me to figure the sex since I don't know for sure. I read on another site that the males have a pointed anal fin while the females have more of a triangular fin.
If they give birth, do they really eat their young? Do they rest on the bottom while giving birth?
Should I isolate them before they actually have their babies? Personally, I do not want anymore platys, I'm happy with what I have at the moment not to mention them and the 7 Bleeding Heart Tetras are the soul survivors with my crays. They've already murdered my guppies, I don't want them to do the same with the platys if they're popping out babies.

    This is true

    Yes

Do they rest on the bottom while giving birth?
    Some do

Should I isolate them before they actually have their babies?
You can go to petco and get a breeder box which when born the babies are automatically seperated (about 4 bucks).  iw ouldnt buy the mesh ones since the mother can still eat the young

Ify ou dont want platies then you should let them be born naturally so they can be eaten etc

Well I looked more closely...and I definately have a male and a female. Blah. Need to do something with it. I'd rather not worry about babies every 3 or 4 months!

3 or 4 months? Try weeks.

Even better...although I think these fish are almost as suicidal as the guppies. They keep poking my crays. Don't know how long they will be playing that game.
