oooops, meant to send the url to a youtube video. I've never owned killifish but I'm familiar with them. Saw some at petsmart about a 100yrs ago but people talked me out of getting them, said they were boring.
Killies are nice, lots of species covering a wide range of sizes and behaviors. We have quite a few natives that are quite delightful and offer a cheap alternative to trying some.

The species I see most often here are the Golden Topminnow (Fundulus chrysotus) and Blackstriped topminnow (Fundulus notatus). There are quite a few more, but are rarer or are brackish. Bluefin killifish (Lucania goodei) are highly sought after and do quite well and are occasionally found locally

Did a net search and the Lucania goodei are the ones that I like appearance wise. I'll keep looking. It sounds cold, but I don't know how long it's going to take for my guppies to all die. I'm pretty upset about it.
Not only is Fundulopanchax gardneri my favorite Killifish species, Fundulopanchax gardneri nigerianus happens to be my favorite subspecies of gardneri.
Fundulopanchax gardneri is a beautiful and easy species to keep. You can easily keep a trio in a ten gallon, but a 20 gallon long or larger is best if you want a group of them. Keep two to three females to every male. They are jumpers, so the tank needs to be well covered with no gaps. I have kept a group of them, are were some of the most amazing fish I have kept.
We do have some great Killies that are found in and around Houston, like the ones that were mentioned. My favorite found in the area happens to be Fundulus chrysotus.

There is something fishy going on here, and I kinda like it!
Thank you so much for the info! I'll check into the Fundulus chrysotus. I'm not sure what I'll put in the 20gal long, and of course I'm still dealing with the 10gal tank of death.
I do have to say that Fundulopanchax gardneri made me drool and I see that they sell them on aquabid.

Yeah, I kept many, many species of Killifish in the past, and Fundulopanchax gardneri has always been my favorite species. There are other species out there that will make your jaw drop. Fundulopanchax gardneri can also be sold here in Houston, at places like ADG and Fish Gallery. When I visit ADG again, I'll see if Don can get some in.

Are you serious?! Let me know if you come across some. In spite of my recent guppy disaster I do know how to take care of fish. My blood parrots are 10-11yrs old and I still have a few of my original kuhli loaches that are 10-11yrs old.
At the urging of hubby I've finally started keeping a journal about my fish so that I can better keep up with exactly when I get them and what all goes on.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for them, or another amazing and easy to keep species. Now about those Guppies, you can PM me here or on Facebook. I'm GHAC's livebearer guru, and I'm always happy to help.

Fundulopanchax gardneri is THE fish I am looking for, but cannot figure out where to find them. I am new to this forum, so may I ask what ADG is? And if you have seen any Fundulopanchax gardneri around lately?
