  • Fry in 75gal

Crizz found a little fry living around the parrots pot in the 75. I'm really curious about what it is. Later I did see one of my acei go look under the pot and swim away. Mom?? Should I just leave it or do you think I could try to get it and move it to the 20gal. At least in the 75 it knows where to hide, although I really doubt it will survive.

    What should I do?

generally in my 75g, african tank, i let the mother drop the fry whenever she wants. after that point they are really on their own. the acei may have just seen movement and investigated. if there is a lot of plant cover and rocks, they can live a while. mine has lots of artificial plants, coral rock, etc. to hide in and under. i pick them out as a i see them into a net breeder that is filled with fake plants. it keeps them safe from the group and hidden. i have had some live for 4-6 weeks before i see them in the tank.

ultimately yes, they will outgrow their hiding spots and are at the mercy of the tankmates. if you want to raise him up, put him in a net breeder or a grow out tank

It's better to leave him be. There is a small chance that you can save him by removing all the rock and deco out. He will be eaten by the tank mates by then. He get more chance hiding out at his spot. He survive thus far.

It is tiny enough to be eaten no matter where I put it. I haven't seen it since that day that Crizz pointed it out. There are a lot of good hiding places but one wrong move... IF I see it again I might try to save it.

even if you see it, they are easy to lose again haha. there are times it takes me a few attempts to catch a baby. its in their nature to stay out of sight as much as possible obviously to avoid getting eaten. if i see them i try, but i dont go all around ripping up plants and rocks to catch him. if i dont get him within like 5 minutes i try again later when i see him again. they dont tend to wander much from where you last saw them. once they find a secure spot its best to chill there

You can save ALL the fry if you strip them at the right time. LOL
