Re: Yea.....I get to pick up a 110 show Tank today

I went an picked up an oveflow box yesterday. Got the big 1800gph box.  I figured I will use it on a 210 when I find one. I realy need to go down in size as this overbox is huge. So I got everything adjusted per the instrauctions and we are rocking. Currently have a 625gph pump on it and was going to order a mag 12 unless someone here has one or if someone here knows of a LFS that has reasonable prices.  I am also going to keep my eyes open for another wet dry sump for my 135.

      Thanks for all the help

          Chris,

I am pretty sure that City Pets have them.. but they are no where near Humble... they are on Beechnut, near beltway 8 which is about 30 miles south of where you reside.
You can call them and ask at least right ?  713.271.PETS

A mag12 will have with a 5ft rise still a flow of about 1100 gallons per hour...  that is a lot of water :) :) :)

Re: Yea.....I get to pick up a 110 show Tank today

Well the home made overflow was such a POS that I decided to get the bad boy that flows 1800gph. My thinkin is that I will move it to the 135g and then use it on a 210g if I ever find one. I will pick up a smaller overflow for the 110.

I am kind of stupid in that I like to take things up a notch all the time. All my tanks are very happy because I overfilter them so I figured I would do the same with this sump.

Is there any impact on the health of a tank when you overfilter with a sump??? Also how can I find out what rates I should be flowing or is there a rule of thumb for turn over in a tank?

Re: Yea.....I get to pick up a 110 show Tank today

You cannot over filter a sump.. the problem with going with a super large pump is that your pump is pumping so hard and if there is not enough water coming back into the overflow your pump is going to cavitate on you and that means noise...  now you did say you got a 1800 gph overflow so you should be okie.  I dont think you are over doing things and if you put a valve on it then you have a way to slow down the flow
Remember also that you can physically only pump about 700 gph through a 5/8" hose which is what I am seeing you are using (at least the python valve gives it away.)

              A mag7 uses a 1/2" exhaust
              A mag 9.5 uses a 3/4" exhaust.
              A mag 12 uses a 3/4" exhaust.

I am going say with pretty good confidence...  If you get a Mag 9.5 or 12 you will need to get some new 3/4" return line for your pump.  The Directional U-Tube if you have one on your tank should work.
