  • Has anyone checked out Petco at I-45&Sawdust recently?

Just curious if anyone has been to the Petco at 45 and Sawdust recently.  The guy that's in charge of the fish there, his name is Shaun I think (you'll know him if you go there, he's about 6'5" and he will talk your ears off) keeps the tanks up very well.  I know that Petco in general gets a bad rap as far as most things fish are concerned, but I was wondering if it is possible that there is an exception.

I've been there a couple times to look at their fish because the two fish stores in my area don't really meet my needs, which are beginner community fish as I am working on my first tank (lightly planted).  Fish-R-Us seems to have dubious water quality and the tetras and similar fish there are pretty expensive.  Ultimate Fish on 2920 seems to have a great staff that really keep up their tanks well.  I got a BN pleco there that I am very pleased with, but they don't really have a good selection of beginner community fish as they specialize in cichlids and many of their other FW fish are too large for my 29g.  I also got all my plants I have from them and am pleased with my purchases.

This is why I am curious as to what you guys who have been to this store think.  They have some fish that I am interested in at good prices and their tanks seem to be clean and well-kept.

Never been there, a bit out of my shopping grid, nice to hear a good report though, thanks for sharing.

That petco is right around the corner from my apartment.

I've always thought that their tanks seemed to be kept up pretty well.

I go by every now & then, and yes they are the exception...apparently he has more leeway to do as he wants in terms of ordering, etc, but usually it is the "normal" fish, both fresh & salt. I used to shop there b4 I found the FishBox and the LFS.
        215g Malawi Peacocks and Mbuna
180g Tropheus Ikola and Bemba and Clown Loaches
58g Bristlenose breeding and grow out

True, they don't have any fish that experienced hobbyists would find exciting, but for noobs like me it's nice to have a place that stocks tetras, harlequins and danios and doesn't charge $3-4 each like Fish-R-Us.  I think I'm going to pick up a few fish there soon.

I've almost bought a few dojo loaches there... just never quite made the leap to do it.
