  • 29 gallon stocking

My wife and I just got a 29 gallon aquarium, and would like to try to stock with cichlids. We think shellies should do work, although we are open to suggestions.

Where is the best place to go in Houston, where we may be able to find cichlids that fit the size we want?

If you would like to have plants now or later put 3 inches of a good substrate for your future plants.

Most cichlids like to eat the roots of live plants, but not all of them.

Shellie's are a good choice but Apisto's or Ram's. There are a few other.

You may want to call ahead to see if your fish are there.
They do have a good selection .
Also "fish gallery" is nice place to. There is more I can't remember them all.

It would be awesome, but I don't think she will fit in a 29 gallon.

Man damn my auto correct on my cell phone lol!

Went to LFS, owner said shellies aren't very good looking. I did some searching (thanks Troy), what do y'all think about apistos? I have seen very colorful kinds, but doubt the availability here in Houston.. maybe a special order?

Also, turns out the 29 gallon is actually 37 gallons! Who has stocking ideas for that?

Last night I filled it with substrate and rocks, and some RO water. Waiting on glass lid, heater, and filter to come in this week.

You can get Apisto's here. I have seen them at Fish Gallery, but other places like ADG, Houston Aquarium Warehouse, get the or can get them for you. Even the little bit bigger tank would make a great home for Apisto's.
