  • oceanic atlantis?

ok have any of you had experience with this local (houston) oceanic atlantis brand?  it seems like i have seen them at almost all LFS (not petco/petsmart)

are they reliable?  anyone use them for 1+ year?  any issues with stand/tank/leakage/breakage?

for my next tank 65gallon+ i am thinking about what brand tank i should get and the prices on the oceanic atlantis tanks are very tempting
    65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
    30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

I have a Ocean Atlantis tank which I bought from CF here..  I have had it for a month now and I am VERY happy with it :)
Its solid and well built that is for sure.  The tank is coming up on being about a year old holding water without a problem

      Tank is a 70g 3ft tank  36x18 foot print.

I have three of them...well...two of them anyway, as Zulaab, points out....anywho, they are built well enough, bout the only blemish I can speak of at this point, is the silicone application, they are not the best at making a nice neat application inside the tank.
I would not go as far as to say do not buy one, but I would recommend that you examine the silicone/caulking job in detail.

Otherwise, they are pretty nice looking tanks, oh yeah, and their stands are rough, but they do the job.

Very reliable. We have a custom 240g from them and I can't speak highly enough about the quality.

            Re: oceanic atlantis?

I think they are great tanks. I had a bit of a disaster with one and Denny/Benny (the guy that runs the place) was very helpful. I bought a hex tank from a LFS. I had the thing set up for a couple of months. The wife and I left town for a couple of days. Upon returning, I opened the door to the apartment and heard the HOB filter grinding. I knew there was little or no water in the tank. I looked under the stand and the bottom busted. (Fish still had about 3 inches of water so I saved them.) Assuming it was somehow my ignorance (too much gravel, etc.) and since the warranty clearly stated it did not cover breakage, I did not expect them to fix the tank. I called them offering to pay to have the bottom glass replace. Denny/Benny said he would do it for free. I was very surprised. I dropped it off at the LFS and a week later the tank was good as new. Cheap tank and good service after the sale.

I have 2 75s. One I bought used and the other new from City Pets. The used one is an older model and looks great. The new one has the same silicone issue CF points out. The glass is thinner than Oceanic brand, more like All-Glass. But then you aren't paying Oceanic prices.

The real cheapness, in my opinion, is the stand. They really skimp on wood quality. I had to ask City Pets for a new stand from the one showing with tank because the quality of wood did not take stain too well. The canopy looks cheap as well.

I wouldn't recommend them as show tanks because of the poor stand, but, otherwise,  for the money, they are OK as combos, but great as tank alone.

thanks for the info. guys, since i am wanting a "show" tank for my living/dining area, maybe i should stick with my original idea of a 65 (48*18 footprint) ADA tank (i think the tank itself is about $350), the trick is finding a plain dark stand that does not look cheap
