  • Where to find hardscape in houston?

I'm looking to make a 60 gallon planted tank and want to know if anyone knows of any local creeks that are good for gathering cool looking rocks.

I have manzanita if you want wood in your tank. Here is one piece of many that I have.

What fish will you be keeping in your tank? If you want to do something more naturel? Some fish come from rocky places. Some come from places with lots of fallen wood cover. Go with what your fish would like. Not much rock on the ground but you can fin nice rock at landscape places. Adam has great driftwood.

I have some manzanita and I was thinking of getting fancy guppies and some ember tetras.

Any landscape places in katy with good rock? The places I went to only had slabs and stone cut into the shape of bricks.

Sorry for going off topic but doesn't ember tetras need soft water? Guppies do better in hard.

Ember tetras do best in a slightly acidic pH but like most South American tetras, they often do well in harder, slightly basic water conditions. When the males are in optimal breeding condition, they display magnificent coloring.

Thank you Mike. I wanted some of those but from what I read it made me think that my water is way too hard. I know I can't keep guppies alive for long unless I keep salt in the water.

                  Guppies

It it is my experience that guppies do best in established tank wit plants like duckweed, frog bit and water sprite. You should purchase a cheap TDS meter. It will tell you a lot about your water. A dH kit is not as important but I have one also. With an established tank with plants, you will soon have a guppy farm.

A few local rock yards I've had good success with:

                    Alamo Stone Co.
                    NEPCO
                    Champion Stone
                    Rogue Stone Co.
