I have been keeping fish on and off for many years but somehow I never had dempseys before. A month or so ago I got a male and female 5 to 6 inches. I put them in my 210 with mostly SA cichlids and they are getting along just fine and are beautiful fish. The male hides most of the time and the female is more often out and about. She is the boss of the pair.
