  • Lets talk LIGHTS!!!

My tank is 60"x30"x30" and freshwater. what are the best lights out there right now. Ive been told that Current Satelight Plus Pros are nice, and Ive heard Kessils are as well but ive never used either. My last tanks always used metal halides. Im not really worried about price of the light...just want ideas on what is the best. Also, how many of each light would I need? any ideas to lead me in a direction would be appreciated.

Popular lights nowadays is LED. I have a few on my tanks and really like them. Both brand you mentioned are very nice but kind of pricey.

I use two different brands of LED... Current Satellites and AquaLife Edge. The current has some fun modes, like thunderstorm, etc, but I rarely use them. The Current requires a separate ramp timer if you want the lights to ramp up and down. The Edge has 3 built in ramp timers and has moonlights. The Edge also has battery backup, if the power goes out it does not lose the time settings.

Out of the two... I prefer the AquaLife Edge. I do a 30 minute ramp up of the white and color lights in the morning. Then have the Moonlights come on just as the white and color lights start the 30 minute ramp down in the evening. I have the moonlights on for an hour after that.

LED floodlights. Similar effect to Halides, but less heat, more efficient, and cheaper. Not to mention the best shimmer you'll get!

I believe the Finnex Ray2 lights are 6500K. They are one color - bright white.

Kessil "amazon sun" is the most natural looking IMO but has a limited illumination area and are $...can't stand the satellites personally and the color settings seem "gimmicky"

I have Finnex LED for over a years, and my plants love them so far. They have different models, but i like the all white light. Moon light doesn't look that great in a freshwater.

You can buy a used Finnex Ray2 for about $50. I saw one today on The Planted Tank.
