  • Finally about to get my wife's 1st tank going!

As the title says, finally getting my wife's 1st tank up and going. We bought a 20 gallon long as her 1st tank and while looking for a stand for it I came across a lady on Facebook selling a 29 gallon hexagon tank with lower stand for $60.00 and since she was really wanting a hexagon tank we went ahead and picked it up and put the 20 long in the garage. I found a guy selling a used Cascade 700 canister with no hookup's and bought it for the 29 gallon. I made my own Intake and spraybar out of 1/2" PVC going to a barbed fitting then to 1/2" line to the filter. I used Leslie's PFS as the substrate and filter floss and Lava Rock in the canister. The tank already had a 100 watt in tank heater so I decided we would use it till I could get her a 200 watt Hydor Inline heater. Go tit filled with water and worked the kinks out of the spraybar till I had it spraying how I wanted. Everything was going awesome with it till I started looking for a light that fits the top and will penetrate to the bottom of the tank... She also wants live plants so that was another obstacle I had to cross... After looking for over a month for something that would work I decided to go ahead and get a stand for her 20 long and get it up and running while I figure out what to do for the 29. So last night I ordered her a Coralife T5HO 30" fixture, 30" top glass, and I picked her up a stand. I went ahead and assembled the stand and got everything ready so when the light and glass gets here I can disassemble her 29, use the PFS for the 20 long, and make another Intake and spraybar that works with the Cascade for her 20 long. I will update with pics and all as our progress continues with her tank.

My 40g hex has a 10g tank hood. I had to cut the corners of but it looks good and it gives it plenty of light. It is My planted tank.

If you are old enough, you may remember the hex tanks introduced in the late 1960s while the Beatles rocked the charts.

Got her light & glass top in yesterday so we got her tank up and running last night. She also picked up a few decorations and a plant so we added it in to her tank.
