  • Iron stands

I need to get a stand for my 55 gallon tank and I was asking around here for one and someone mentioned Wal Mart in case no one had one. I started looking around and looked at the iron stands and people that reviewed it said that putting smaller tanks on the bottom of the stand to help stabilize it. Next year I'll be living in my own apartment (woohoo!!!) with the 55 gallon tank and I plan on continuing to breed bettas in my 10 gal tanks.

I figure, it would be a good idea to go ahead with the iron stand so that I can keep everything together or is it too dangerous with the possible instability of the iron stand.

    Any reviews?

    Re: Iron stands

I use an iron stand for my 25 and love it. I find it more stable than the cheaper wooden ones, and I don't have a tank on the bottom. The great thing about the iron is you don't have to worry about water rotting it out. The down side is you don't have concealed storage. I do have a wooden stand with a 10 on the top and bottom though, and the big disadvantage is you can't use a syphon to clean the bottom tank because it is too low.

One of the best things for keeping multiple small tanks and betta containers is the SS bakers shelves available at most large chain stores.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

If you can spend some time trying to balance the stand.  My iron stand leans forward a bit.  I've put leg levels under the front two legs but once you get all the water into the tank, the levels do very little against the weight.  It really doesn't bother me too much, but if I could set everything up again I would try and do more to level out the tank.

This is great, thank so much!! I'm going to go into the iron stand, then. As for storage, I'll have another fish area for that, so that's not too much of a concern. As for the SS bakers shelves, I'm always concerned about not having enough room to do water changes. I'll probably have 2 10 gals and maybe a 5 gal. We'll see.  Let me know what y'all think.
