  • Fish at work

Who here, besides those who already work/own LFS obviously, keep an aquarium at their workplace? I had a desk top aquarium at the veterinary hospital I work at containing a blue red-claw crawfish, whom my coworkers named "Pinchy". Today a client donated a 20 gallon tank, so Pinchy got an upgrade. I added white estes marine sand with a small amount of black sand for a marbled effect. Pinchy now shares his tank with a native crawfish, named Zattaran and 2 shubunkin goldfish. Dr Matlock who works with me keeps a blue and cream crowntail betta (from Spot) in a 1 gallon tank on her desk. I'll try to get pics of them later, since we have a digital camera at work.

I was gonna set up a little planted tank at work but since there was some issues that came up at work we are not allowed to have non-work related stuff there.....so all the refrigerators, microwaves, sound systems had to go home......I did think about buying a hutch for my tool box so that I could close it up when I leave but haven't got a chance yet.

Had bettas at work at one point.

I have a 10 gallon tank at work with a pair of paradise fish and a dwarf african frog. The customers and their kids love it.  When we set it up we didn't actually get permission. The owner came by one day and said: What is that? We said: It's an aquarium, a great ice breaker, a nice conversational piece and the customers love it. He said: Ok and that was that.  It has been up and running for about 6 months or maybe longer now.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I have a 29 gal and a 20 gal at work, both nano reefs.
My boss wants me to set up another 40 gal cube with seahorses... so that will be quite interesting.

Hey Thomas... this is my view at work.... right now I am treating the big tank for ick.... Dang it!
I have a shop in La Porte   Coupland Signs... anyone is welcome to come see... I am proud of the tanks... but they are not super fantastic or anything  (to me they are).... I just ordered another tank from fish gallery    100 gall to be set up at the house... that will make 4 at home and 2 at work.... and the ones at work, Thomas .. only one is planted... I just set that one up..

                    Re: Fish at work

Oh, that one with nice wood art. Look like too much work when it comes to water change. Do you use CO2 on your planted 75gal. What kind of subtrate you're using?

At my ex-workplace, there is a bowfront 75gal for cichlids, parrot, green terror,..... The owner is not into fish at all, just a typical insurance office decoration.

                      Re: Fish at work

My wife kept a 55g in her classroom (Science Teacher)
half a dozen 7" tinfoil barbs & misc. single fish. (Plastic plants & ceramic do-dads)
The kids loved doing water changes, feeding etc.

I just had a show betta in a 3/4g cube with stained glass trim & recycled glass gravel.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

                        Re: Fish at work

I had three tanks at school, but after christmas I downsized to one.  It is only a 10 gallon with fancy guppies who grandly overcame a horrible fungus, and a blue cray who keeps growing in leaps and bounds.  Prior to that I had different cichlids in a 30 gallon and smaller cichlids in another 10.  I am getting ready to take the guppies and the crayfish home...... less than 3 weeks to go!!!!!!!!  My students check on the fish every day and give me updates.  We currently have about 15 babies of various ages and 7 adults.
