  • very thin hair-like things on glass

During feeding this evening, I noticed very very fine, thin, hair-like things attached to the glass.  I can only see it if the light is on and I look at just the right angle.  It seems to wave in the water current. I have no idea what the color is because it is so fine.

Tried to do some research, but it didn't really help.  Thought it might be the beginnings of algae.

Any thoughts?  Should I be worried?

It is a 20 gallon, fish only, no live plants tank.

    Thanks!

Sounds exactly like what I had. In the light, mine was white. Solution = O cats.

It is either white or brown.  There is such a small amount and it is so fine it is hard to tell.  I'm fairly sure it is not green.

Thanks for the advice.  What a great excuse to add a new fish!

BTW, if you go with OCats, my experience has found you need some live plants for them to survive. But others may have other experience and knowledge with Ocats that makes this advice minimal at best.

My Ocats survive a long time (still have some originals from a year ago) and I have a very few live plants, in a few tanks.

Re: very thin hair-like things on glass

I'm on the hunt for some Ocats.  Did some tank maintanence yesterday and moved a few rocks and plants around.  It looked like there were clumps of white lint floating in the water after.

Plants are not really an option as plant = snails and snails = me screaming in horror as a gross slimy thing slides across the glass.

I'll make sure to add some vegis for the Ocats to snack on.

                      Thanks y'all!
