  • Red longfinned white cloud minnows

I just went to Fish Ranch II today to get some supplies - I had a list and was determined to stick to it, for once, then Mike showed me these guys -

They were too pretty!  I have a 14 gallon that I am working on, I decided I want to go all planted, no more fake plants in my nicer tanks, and had 7 rio von flame tetras in there.  I bought plants there (crypts, red ludwigea) with the plan on getting some CRS's in there.  Now when I saw these fish, I just had to have them, so after asking about their compatability, I bought 10 of them, 6 male, 4 female.

Does anyone have these fish?  What conditions do they need to have fry?  One of the females looks really fat...

      5.00 each or 10 for 40.00.

I knew I wanted more than 5 of them, so buying ten just made sense.

The only other fish I am super tempted to add to them would be a pair or two of the angel rams they have - they are so pretty.

They looked like they had just unpacked another shipment as well...

My total purchase came out to a lot for me.

Yep...some healthy and small sized blue eyes! I always wanted some but being as though all my tanks at the time were small and not accommodating the the larger ones they use to get it I never got any....these are small but not tiny IMO perfect size!

hmm, eww clams, return it if you can, they don't do well in aquarium (they do much better in soup or sauted...) ...   i am in the process of finding a 40 - 50 cube, and going to do a paludarium with a doz. of those blue eyes... not sure which kind yet...

I agree.....clams in any aquarium is destined to cause problems when(not if) they die.....they are filter feeders and there is no ideal way to provide that in a closed environment.

Hmmm, I thought they would help clean the water in the tank that has no shrimp or snails.

What do they eat?  At FRII, they seemed to think they would be a good idea...

Re: Red longfinned white cloud minnows

They are filter feeders so there must be source of nutrient/food in the water column for them to feed on....They need a high level of food/detritus/planktonlike in the water column which IMO means dirty water.

i got some when i was in there last a couple of months back. they did not do too well. not a problem when they died (fishies ate them right up) I believe i still have a few left but they dont come out often. the empty shells look kinda cool though. but i dont think i would recommend them, since they dont add too much to the tank and have a high tendency to die.

a friend of mine has kept and breed those before, he had a huge mature tank, he would put the clam in the sump with a sand based bottom, that is about the only way i know of to keep them alive at home...
