  • Fish for getting rid of ramshorn snails?

What is a good fish I can put into a community fish tank
that will eradicate all the ramshorn snails in my tank?
That tank is a 29 gal. heavily planted w/ small schools of rummy nose &
cardinal tetra, 3 German blue rams, a couple of ottos, and a few
    Amanos and cherry shrimp.

      Pick them out by hand.

Whatever you put in there will either mess with the shrimp or bother the plants.

Those sidthimunki I got from you, ek, don't seem to bother the 3 or 4 amanos I have in the tank with them. Just an idea. Although any baby cherries might not survive - but I'd bet the rams would take care of those, as well.

I can count the ramshorns in this tank with one hand, and those that are still around are too big for the sidthimunki to eat.

They're critically endangered, though. So maybe not the best idea.  :(

            OK.
I prob will remove the amanos and cherrys
just in case. The rams seem to (so far) not mess w/ the
            cherrys @ all.
The thing is that there are so many, more that I can grab. Plus
almost all of them are babys so it's pretty hard to find and pull them out.

personally,i love having 1000's of snails in a tank.but if i wanted to get rid of them,i would put a piece of lettuce or zuchini(a squash whose name i cant spell)in the bottom of the tank.wait till covered with snails, remove from tank, repeat as necessary.might not work in planted tank, but worth a try.good luck.

Any fresh water puffer, dwarf's are good for small ramshorns, yoyo loach, clown loach. You have plenty of choices to remove snails, as mentioned tho, most of your choices will enjoy the shellfish as well if not more than the snails.

Me too, but I really lov having Olive Nerite Snails and the ramhones have eaten all there resources here.
I've been using slices of cucumber and doing the same but still too many...

those things eat snails???  If so, I've got 2 I need to turn into 'porta-snailers' like I used to do with my green spotted puffer's before I converted them to brackish....

Yes Spot, this tetra eradicated mts from one of my tanks. I noticed empty shells then one day I saw a trumpet snail hanging from her mouth! I know it's a she as I saw a pic of a male online and the males have blue fins. I have never seen another one since at Fish Gallery or elsewhere. Sure would like to find more.

I picked up a couple in baytown a good while back.  Forget how much they were, but they were the cutest little things, and I knew they would stay small.  I had been looking for some for a while.  Forget the name of the store, it's on Garth Road, in a Kroger shopping center.

My blue crayfish eat ramshorn snails, but they might also eat your plants.

I always hesitate to recommend adding fish to get rid of snails. The first thing is not to provide food for the snails. Possibly cut back on feedings to eliminate leftover food for them. While sids, yoyos and other loaches will eat them, they could have a negative impact elsewhere for your tank. I use the idea that jughead gave you in my tanks. I put a small saucer on the tank bottom with some greens on it and remove it in the morning with the snails on it. I do that on successive nights during the dark period until the snail population has dropped to my target...I also cut down on the fish food.
