  • My new 140g

Well please forgive the pictures but here we go. Picked up the new tank from Derek last friday and have been busy ever since.  First couple of pictures are the frame. Yes its overbuilt but I hate having to redo things and made it a little wider to accomodate a 24 inch wide tank. Picture show it coming along and the top, sides and bottom being skinned. I have not trimmed out the front, doors or edges yet as I have to get this thing going.

Plumbing in a drain and a return for the ehiem 2260 on the bottom center. I raised the drain side a little higher as not to draw in sand.   I will be hiding this with a few pieces of  well placed holey rock.

I will be also adding a rena fx4 to water polish as its still a little cloudy right at the moment.

The lighting is the T-5 unit. I decided to stay away from pendent lighting or a serious halide system because this tank will only be here for so long until it goes to the new house. The light that I picked up tonight is more than enough and has the timers fans and all so is simplifies everything.

This will be the new troph tank and want to thank everyone for all the help and input so far

Looks nice so far! Congrats on your new setup. Looks like a very sturdy stand.

I'd like to place a order for a stand, what a really nice stand! :emtthumbs:

I wish I knew Derek had a cherry Oak 140, kinda looking for one myself.

I cannot tell from the photos, but I sure hope you have put yourself some kind of isolation between canister and the tank.

What stain did you use?  It looks really nice.

                        Geoff,
Good call. You must be referring to a shut off valve on the drain and return. I thought about this after and have come up with a plan to put one in before I load with fish. I am going to thread a cap in from the top long enough to drain the lines and put the valves in.
I currently have about $75 into it. It’s stained with cherry and sealed with plasti-cote. I have built other furniture in the past and the stuff is impervious to water and will not spot or leave rings. After trimming out the front, I will probably have about $125 into it or so.   Oak is stupid expensive.

You guys are correct in that it is overbuilt but I have children running around and I wanted to make sure that under hurricane conditions I could hide under it…

Geoff.. the tank was the 140g ADG tank from the warehouse.  You saw it when you went there for the garage sale... unless you didnt ask Derek where it was.  (it was back where the eheim 2213/17's where at)

I just told Chris about it because he was looking for something around 5ft/6ft range that I recalled this tank didnt sell, and I figured that Derek could still sell it, as long as the tank was still available.
