  • Synadontis multipunctatus or petricola ?

I am looking for a pair or trio of Synodontis multipunctatus --  Young small if at all possible.  The smaller the better to be honest with you all.  They are going into a Leleupi / Brichardi tank I have and potentially I might want something different than a multipunctatus.  Maybe a different kind.  I want something small... maybe a trio of petricola ?
I need a clearing and cleaning crew.. the tank has food that makes it to the bottom where the leleupi's and Brichardi's dont really look for it to clean up after themselves.
What are your suggestions and feelings on this ?  Where can I obtain them or do any of you out there looking to sell ?

I have a trio of Petricola that are about 2 years old that I got from Alex at Ultimate fish as Wildcaught.  I paid $15 a peice for them.

They are bigger now, but I will glady sell them to you for $40.

It's a little far from Katy but Aqua Zoo usually has both species.

If you're concerned about your Leleupi fry getting eaten up, these guys may not be such a great addition. Otherwise, I've always liked the petricola variant better. They don't get as large as the multipunctatus.

The Petricolas will wipe out most any fry that they are associated with.  The trio of dwarfs that I had were quite partial to Peacock fry.

Re: Synadontis multipunctatus or petricola ?

Hmm... I need something to clean the sand...  the damn fish even with only a pinch of food leaves a lot of it on the bottom that sits there all day long.
I was thinking Petricola's because I know they are small and understand my tank is FULL of places for them to hide..   My Brichardi are hardcore like convicts when it comes time to protect their fry.  I don't know if my Leleupi are near good enough.  The Brichardi bit the living crap out of my decorus when they where in the same tank, and I would add some more decorus, but I dont see them often in the trade.
I was thinking of Lake Tanganyika and Syno's from there would be cool, but then again I don't need a trio that will become an eating machine and devastate any and all fry from a fold.
I don't know right now what route I should take...  anyone for some suggestions ?

Geoff.. if I go Petricola's I will pick yours up :)   gives me a chance to drive to Deer Park and visit you and Raul :)
Btw how big are your Petricola's ?

i got a horse head loach. this guy is like a mini giraffe cat. had him in a troph tank and did not see him for 6 years. took all the substrate out of that tank. dumped him in a tank with 6 petricolas and this guy turns out to have a great personality. he's all over the place and he definatley filters through 100 % of the gravel everyday.

Both will eat fry or small fish regardless of how well parents brood their young.
