          Re: Storm Coming

So far I've bought and/or stored:

          48 D cell batteries
          8 battery powered air pumps
          30 gallons of water
dog food, cat food, bird food and fish food for two weeks
canned goods and dry staples for a month
8 1-pound propane bottles for the coleman stove
enough extension cords to steal power from a quarter mile away
enough booze for the 7th fleet homecoming party
enough toilet paper for a sorority house for 3 weeks

I also, in April, paid $3,800.00 to have a 100' tall cottonwood tree removed from next to my house.

I am as fully prepared as humanly possible...which means the storm will come nowhere near my house, I'll have to go to work tomorrow and am getting seriously drunk when I get home tomorrow after work.

Apparently we're having a hurricane party tonight...and I was saving that Patron.

Fortunately we have a wide enough network of members that hopefully, those who aren't affected will have the means and time to help any who are affected.

                  Re: Storm Coming

When the Rita scare occurred, my mom and brother came to my place to hunker down with me.  I wasn't going anywhere if it meant I had to leave the fish and cats.  No way.  So we got water, batteries, a weather radio, food, tons of stuff.  And I moved everything that could be picked up by wind and put it in the garage.  We sat here and watched the news for 2 days...at one point the weatherman said (in a highly dramatic tone) "There are 45 mile an hour winds reported in Fort Bend County!!"  My brother got up, opened the door and stepped outside.  His hair didn't even move.   :?

So, because of that, I am less inclined to go into prep mode when they report TS or Hurricanes.  I just make sure to have candles and a flashlight now.  I'm sure that will end up biting me in the butt.

                    Re: Storm Coming

I have been currently doing Disaster Recovery prepping for my company all day...everyone is in panic mode.

As for here at the house.  I have stocked plenty of BEER and wine. I should be able to make a few days and if I run out and things are real bad and all shut down......I will loot pillage and plunder until more cold beer is located.

ohhh  and I have a generator also.
There is no "normal" life, it's just life so get on with it.

                      Re: Storm Coming

Funny thing is...when I'm prepared and I have a apt. full of canned goods, enough dog food to build a small house, (10) 24-packs of water, flashlights up the wazoo...there is no storm.

When I'm not prepared at all, I get stuck in my apartment for 3-4 days with 2 cans of corn and a package of spam, 3 dog pebbles, one half empty bottle of fiji water, and a tea candle with 2 matches.  :?

So, this time...I have 3 cans of corn, no spam, some spaghetti o's, a small bag of dog food, a 12 pack of water, and a flashlight that goes on my head.

I also just bought a new portable BBQ pit (not the gaint stainless steel monster of a lover grill that I have outside)...I will cook my spaghetti o's  under the balcony if I have to.

I am going to head home tonight..  fill up my car with gas.
After that I am going to enjoy I live in Katy and ride this one out..
For some reason or another I doubt I will be more stuck there than I was this morning going to work.
It will rain.. but who cares.
