My new eel

First, I'd like to say thank you to CichlidFan to identifying my eel species. I was freaking out all over the place thinking he was a tire track eel.
Luckily, he is not. He seems to be a peacock eek. He's adorable and wonderful. He seems to be getting a little more friendly over the last few days. I watched him eat a bloodworm today which was a relief because I was scared he wasn't eating much. I am googling and googling...and I can't find an information about tank mates or if I should add another one in to keep him company.
if you've ever kept one of these little guys or if you know anything about it, it would be nice.


That's what I see in my aquarium, I wish my digital camera was working...I could show you more pictures of him.

He smashes him nose on the aquarium like this...oh man, I love him.

Peacocks are spiney eels, cousins to zigzags, tire tracks and fire eels. I have two tire tracks in one tank and a zigzag in another. Peacocks don't stay as small as zigzags and don't get as big as tire tracks...maybe 9 or ten inches long. They'll eat live fry, frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp. I've had zero luck getting any of mine to eat any prepared foods.

Alex, the zigzag lives with a male betta, named Fred Hall. The tire tracks live with two SAEs.

Wesley, so would you say the zigzag would be the smallest of the FW eels commonly available to us?

Wesley, thanks for the advice...I'll keep it in mind.  
As far as the peacock eel, he's great so far. I love his nose...CF, I pressed the bloodworms along the glass
and you're right.....he'll come up and eat them. I didn't plan on the violet/dragon goby following him though.
Scared me a little, but he's the most timid fish I've ever had and also the biggest fish I have ever had.

Glad to hear it worked for you....you'll find it's tough keeping other fish (if there are any) away from the cube long enough for the eel to get them..... :)

Yes CichlidFan zigzag eel is the smallest freshwater eel available in the aquarium trade.

Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner, CF. HFF had my back, though.

Alex, try thawing the bloodworms first, then distributing them through the water. They'll spread out and the fish will have to find them. It's pretty cool watching the eels poke their little snouts down in the substrate while they search for food. Your dragon goby is a brackish fish, I think, and won't survive long in FW.

From what I have read...the peacock eel appreciates aquarium salt and so does the dragon goby needs brackish...so I'm hoping the dragon goby can tough it out. He came from a freshwater setup...I had to drip acclimate him to the setup. (out of motherly precaution). lol.
