  • 90 gal hex

I'm going to be starting a 90 gal hex soon , and I was wondering what type of fish would do well in a tank with such a small footprint? I was thinking of a community tank.
I would like a mix that covers all levels of the tank, and provides some color. Any Ideas? I'm open to all types of fish. Just need some ideas on how many and what kind.
Thanks in advance for the help. I love this site. I also need to know what type of filtration will work best for this setup. I don't think the tank is drilled.

I am not a big fan of Hex tanks due to the limited viewing area, but to be honest, one of the most impressive tanks I have ever seen was a large hex tank full of yellow labs....

I've see a smaller hex with yellow labs that was beautiful.

Here is what I did with mine:

I put a canister filter (Eheim Pro II) and a powerhead (Maxijet 900) on the tank. It worked pretty well.

Hey That's a great looking tank, but i don't want to go with a species only tank. I was thinking more along the lines of a good mixed tropical community tank. I woululd also love to have one of those ABN Veil tails that you have.

Cool. Just to give you ideas, this is how I would set up a mixed tropical tank:

Anchor 1 side of the hexagon as your background (2 if it is going in a corner). Have large smooth river rocks pile up toward the designated background side. Get a branchy piece of driftwood (or several pieces) and have it emanate from the background. Also get several high quality plants (3) and plant them in desired locations.

Although none of the tanks are haxagons, I would go to www.aquariumdesigngroup.com and browse the freshwater gallery. I was thinking of something along the 12th, 13th,16th, or 19th picture...

As far as the ABN veil tails, look for a post in about a month.

It seems like it would a decent discus tank. I'm no discus expert, but Dan ant Houston Aquarium Warehouse is your best bet with discus. Discus like to be the dominant fish in the tank -- so tetras, rasboras, cory cats,  apistogramma, and some dwarf cichlids would make good tankmates. wesleydunder and wvgdiscus are also experienced discus keepers on this forum.

                      Re: 90 gal hex

I finally picked up the 90 Hex last night. It looks great. Now I need to know what size filter and does anyone have one for sale? I won't actually be able to start this tank for a while cuz funds are tight right now, so I want to start aquiring all the things I need slowly. I need filter, lights, heater, rocks etc....
